On this day in 1962, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax fanned 18 in a 10-2 Dodgers win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

On this day in 2003, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley got his first career hit, a grand slam off of Colorado Rockies starter Dennis Cook.

NBA

On this day in 1967, the Philadelphia 76ers beat the San Francisco Warriors, 125-122 to win the NBA Championship.

NFL

On this day in 2004, the San Diego Chargers selected Eli Manning with the first pick of the draft. The Chargers would trade the upset Manning for the 4th round pick, which turned out to be quarterback Phillip Rivers. San Diego also received three other picks from the Giants.
