On this day in 1998, Paul Molitor of the Minnesota Twins recorded his 500th career stolen base.

On this day in 2002, Atlanta Braves closer John Smoltz recorded his 40th save of the season.  The former starter achieved the feat in 114 games, which made him the fastest closer to ever reach 40 saves in a season.
