On this day in 1961, the Green Bay Packers beat the New York Giants 37-0 in the NFL Championship Game.

On this day in 1967, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 in the NFL Championship Game. The game is referred to as the “Ice Bowl” since the game was played in sub-zero temperatures and a wind chill around -48 °F.

College Football

On this day in 2008, Vanderbilt beat Boston College 16-14 to give them their first bowl win since 1955.

MLB

On this day in 1972, Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburgh Pirates was tragically killed when his plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Clemente was on his way to bring supplies to the victims of the Nicaraguan earthquake.
