On this day in 1967, Philadelphia 76ers center Wilt Chamberlain‘s streak of 35 consecutive field goals ended in a 127-107 win over the Cincinnati Royals.

On this day in 1981, Houston Rockets guard Calvin Murphy made the last of his then NBA record 78 consecutive free throws. The record would be broken during the 1993-94 season by Micheal Williams, who made 97 straight free throws.

On this day in 1903, Pittsburgh Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss and James Potter buy the Philadelphia Phillies for $170,000. It would be seven years before owning multiple teams would be prohibited.

On this day in 2000, the New York Yankees outfielder Darryl Strawberry was suspended for one year after testing positive for cocaine the prior month.
