NFL

On this day in 1968, the Green Bay Packers won their second straight Super Bowl, beating the Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II.  It would be the last Super Bowl the Packers would win until 1996.

On this day in 1973, the Miami Dolphins beat the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII.  The win capped off the Dolphins perfect season, which is something that no team has ever achieved again.

NBA

On this day in 2000, Mark Cuban purchased a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks from H. Ross Perot Jr. The Mavs were considered the worst team in the NBA at the time of the purchase. In the last 15 years Cuban has turned them into NBA Champion and an annual contender.

MLB

On this day in 2002, Barry Bonds avoided arbitration by signing a five-year, $90 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.
