On this day in 1982, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Milwaukee Bucks 171-166 in triple-overtime, which was the highest scoring game in NBA history with 337 points combined. The record would be broke on December 13, 1983 when the Detroit Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184, scoring a combined 370 points.
On this day in 2000, Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal scored an NBA season-high 61 points in a 123-103 Lakers win over the Los Angeles Clippers. O’Neal also added 23 rebounds in the win.

On this day in 2001, 1960 World Series hero Bill Mazeroski was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Mazeroski hit a walk-off home run in Game 7 in the 1960 World Series to give the Pittsburgh Pirates the series victory over the New York Yankees.
