On this day in 1961, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Jim Gentile became the first big leaguer to hit grand slams in consecutive at bats in the same game.  Gentile accomplished the feat in a 13-5 win over the Minnesota Twins.

On this day in 1987, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Eddie Murray became the first big leaguer to hit a home run from different sides of the plate in consecutive games.  Murray helped lead the Orioles to a 15-6 win over the Chicago White Sox.

On this day in 2010, Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden threw a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

On this day in 1988, Lenny Wilkens and K.C. Jones were among the players inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Horse Racing

On this day in 1914, Old Rosebud won the Kentucky Derby.
