Oregon State upsets #6 Arizona State

Oregon State upset #6 Arizona State 35-27, the win gave the Beavers their fifth win of the season.  Oregon State controlled the second half, after trailing 24-14 at half.  This was the Beavers first win over a top-10 teams since October 9, 2010, when they went on the road and beat Arizona 29-27.

Oregon State running backs Terron Ward and Storm Woods both had great games and carried the Beavers to the win.  Ward rushed for 148 yards on 19 carries, with a touchdown.  Woods rushed form 125 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.  Defensive back Michael Doctor had a pick six to seal the deal late in the fourth quarter.

The Beavers were awful on third downs, going 1-for-12, while Arizona State went 7-for-17.  Oregon State outplayed the Sun Devils in every aspect, but third downs.  Arizona State did not look like the same team we saw last week against Notre Dame, falling victim to the hangover.

Taylor Kelly struggled at times for Arizona State, he finished with two touchdowns passes and two interceptions.  He completed 22 of his 42 attempts for 264 yards.  Running back D.J. Foster had 51 yards on 14 carries, he also had 65 yards receiving and a touchdown.  Foster has been great all season long and you have to wonder if they should have ran the ball more.

Oregon State will travel to play Washington next week. The following week they will host #2 Oregon, who they haven’t beat since 2007.  They must win one of those two games to be bowl eligible.

Arizona State plays Washington State next week and will travel to play a very good Arizona team to finish off the season.
