The Philadelphia Phillies recently acquired Matt Harrison from the Rangers in the Cole Hamels trade. Harrison has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, according to Jeff Wilson of the Forth Worth Star Telegram.
Hypothyroidism is when you don’t produce thyroid hormones. Harrison has been suffering from weight loss, back issues and a loss of velocity. Harrison hopes that this diagnoses is the answer to those problems.
The 29-year-old has started just nine games since 2013 and had spinal fusion surgery last year. He’s made just three starts this season, posting a 6.75 ERA in 16 innings.
