The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson, the teams announced.
Happ, 32, has consistently had an ERA over 4.00 during his career. The lefty has pitched 108 2/3 innings this season, positing an ERA of 4.64 and a WHIP of 1.41 and a strikeout rate of 6.8 per nine innings.
The 23-year-old Sampson has pitched in Triple-A all year, posting in ERA of 3.98 in 124 1/3 innings. The right-hander also has a strikeout rate of 6.9 per nine innings and give up 0.6 home runs per nine innings.
