Rangers Acquire Will Venable from the Padres

The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Will Venable from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Marcus Greene and a player to be name later, according to the Rangers executive vice president of communications John Blake. Texas also designated Michael Choice for assignment.

Venable, 32, is hitting a slash of .258/.318/.378 with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 308 plate appearances this season. He was the longest-tenured Padres player before the trade.

The Rangers are just one game out of the American League Wild Card race. This move gives Texas the depth that they’ve been lacking in the outfield.
