Pablo Sandoval is set to sign with the Boston Red Sox. This has been a busy day for Boston, with them already signing Hanley Ramirez. Sandoval deal is five-years and close to $100 million, the deal is still pending a physical.
The Giants offer to Sandoval was reportedly five-years, $95 million.
Sandoval is a career .294 hitter and two time All-Star. He hit .279 with 16 homers and 73 RBIs last season. He’s also a three time champion and won the World Series MVP in 2012. He has been spectacular in the postseason hitting .344 with a .389 on base percentage.
This is a great move for the Red Sox, but like I’ve said previously I don’t like signing guys to more than a three-year deal. Pablo Sandoval is great in the playoffs and will be a key contributor for years to come. I don’t know where Boston will put him in the lineup, but I do imagine it will be either third or fifth.
This is a major disappointment for the Giants, but they can now put every thing they were going to spend on Sandoval into Jon Lester.
