Royals Sign Kris Medlen

The Kansas City Royals have signed Kris Medlen to a two year deal worth $7.5 million, with $10 million in incentives. The deal also contains a mutual option for the 2017 season. Medlen, 29, missed all of last season after having to undergo Tommy John Surgery. He was one of the Braves best starters for almost two seasons in 2012 and 2013.

Kris Medlen went 10-1 with a 1.57 ERA in 2012 and went 15-12 with a 3.11 ERA in 2013. I think this is a great move for the Royals and he will be a great replacement for James Shields.

The Braves non-tendered Medlen a few weeks ago and could have reduced his 2015 salary to around $4.65, but Atlanta decided to part ways with the righty. I think this is a move that the Braves will later regret.
