The Seattle Mariners have designated outfielder Justin Ruggiano for assignment. The move was made in order to clear a roster spot for Jesus Sucre, who will fill in as a backup catcher.
The Mariners received Ruggiano in a trade with the Cubs this offseason. The 33-year-old had a slash line of .214/.321/.357 with two homers and three RBIs in 81 plate appearances.
Ruggiano is owed $2.50 million this season and is under team control through the 2016 season. Seattle will most likely look to trade the outfielder.
