Terrence Cody’s Blocked Field Goal Against Tennessee

On October 24, 2009, Tennessee had a chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets in school history over Alabama, with kicker Daniel Lincoln attempting a 44-yard field goal with the Vols down, 12-10. With the Crimson Tide’s perfect season on the line head coach Nick Saban elected to use one of his three timeouts to ice Lincoln.

The Vols were looking for just their third win over a #1 ranked team in school history, with Tennessee beating LSU in 1959 and Auburn in 1985.

Lincoln was looking to crush the Crimson Tide’s title hopes and give first-year coach Lane Kiffin his biggest win of his career. The junior kicker lined up for the field goal, the snap, and the whole Alabama defense broke through the line, with Terrence Cody’s 6-foot-5, 354 pound frame blocking the kick.
