The Detroit Tigers have placed first baseman Miguel Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 3 calf strain, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. The 32-year-old will miss six weeks. The Tigers have called-up Jefry Marte from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.
Cabrera was having another MVP type season, hitting a slash of .350/.456/.578 with 15 homers and 54 RBIs. This injury definitely hurts the Tigers, who are currently third in the AL Central and they now lose their best player for a month and a half.
This is the first time that Cabrera has ever been on the disabled list, and this will be the first since his rookie season in 2003 that he didn’t play in 148 games or more.
