The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed utility player Ty Kelly off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, the Blue Jays announced.
Kelly, 27, has yet to play at the major league level this season, but has had a spot on the 40-man roster. He’s hit a slash of .203/.317/.286 with two homers and 21 RBIs in 269 plate appearances. The career minor league player has an on-base percentage of .381 over the past seven seasons in the minors.
Kelly was a 13th round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2009.
