Coming into the game Virginia had lost 11 straight games against FBS level competition. That ended Saturday, Louisville got off to a quick start scoring on their first drive. It stayed that way till the end of the first quarter, when Grayson Lambert connected with Miles Gooch for a 15 yard touchdown. Virginia would go on to score 13 more unanswered points to take a 20-7 lead going into the fourth quarter and thats when the game got fun.
Louisville kicked off the fourth quarter with a touchdown drive to make it a 20-14 game. Then Louisville defense was able to force a three and out. On the following drive the Cardinals drove 52 yards down the field to make it 21-20 Louisville with around seven minutes left in the game.
Virginia got the ball back and was forced to punt. Louisville’s James Quick fumbled the punt and Virginia recovered it on Louisville 25 yard line. Then Virginia’s Ian Frye kicked a 42 yard field goal to give the Cavaliers the 23-21 lead with just under four minutes left. Virginia went on to win the game.
Will Gardner had 164 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dominique Brown had 74 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown for Louisville.
Greyson Lambert had 162 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception. Kevin Parks had 22 carries for 66 yards for the Cavaliers.
Virginia plays at BYU next week.
Louisville plays at Florida International next week.
