Wake Forest has been awful this year and coming into the game had only beat one division I team. Virginia Tech beat #7 Ohio State earlier this season and came into this game just a win away from being bowl eligible. Nobody would have thought that Hokies wouldn’t be able to take care of business, but this is a team that has struggled since beating Ohio State.
I would have never guessed this game would be scoreless at the end of regulation. The score was 0-0 going into overtime, both teams finally scored on field goals in the first OT. Wake Forest would kick another field goal in 2OT to take 6-3 lead, after Virginia Tech kicker Joey Slye missed a 53 yard field goal.
This game will probably go down as the worse of the year and I don’t think it can get any worse for Virginia Tech. Wake Forest improved to 3-8 and they will finish the season at Duke. Virginia Tech will either become bowl eligible or have their season come to an end vs Virginia.
