Wisconsin beats Minnesota, Heading to Big Ten Championship

Wisconsin beat Minnesota 34-24 and clinching the Big Ten West division, setting up a matchup with Ohio State next week.

Minnesota controlled the game in the first quarter and lead at the half 17-13. Wisconsin dominated the second half outscoring the Golden Gophers 21-7.

Melvin Gordon finished with 151 yards on 29 carries and a touchdown. Gordon has rushed for 100 yards or more in every game, but one this season. He now has 2,109 yards on the season and 25 touchdowns. Gordon will look to become the third Wisconsin player to win the Heisman Trophy, the other two were Alan Ameche in 1954 and Ron Dayne in 1999.

Junior quarterback Joel Stave threw for 215 yards on 11 completions and a touchdown. Most of those yards were to sophomore receiver Alex Erickson, who finished with 160 yards on five receptions.

Minnesota senior running back David Cobb finished with 118 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown. Cobb ended the regular season with 1,430 yards and 12 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Mitch Leidner added two rushing touchdowns for the Golden Gophers.

Wisconsin improved to 10-2 and will play Ohio State next week. The Badgers might be the favorite with the Buckeyes starting quarterback J.T. Barrett getting injured.

Minnesota falls to 8-4 and will await their bowl destination.
