The New York Yankees have acquired Dustin Ackley from the Seattle Mariners for outfield prospect Ramon Flores, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. Right-handed pitcher Jose Ramirez is the other pitcher that is heading to the Mariners.
The 27-year-old Ackley is having the worse season of his career, hitting a slash of .215/.270/.366 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 186 plate appearances. The Yankees will most likely use the second baseman/outfielder in a utility role.
Flores, 23, was ranked as the 20th best prospect in the Yankees organization in our preseason rankings. He’s already seen time in the big leagues this season, collecting seven hits in 33 plate appearances. Flores has played seven seasons in the minors, hitting a career slash of .272/.360/.400 with 43 home runs and 260 RBIs.
Ramirez, 25, has also seen time in the majors the past two season, posting a 7.62 ERA in 13 innings. The righty has been far better in his eight minor league seasons, recording an ERA of 3.60 over 555 2/3 innings.
This looks like a great move for the Yankees, as they add a good player off the bench and didn’t have to give up any key prospects.
