New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced today that top prospect Luis Severino will start for the club sometime next week.
Severino came up in a lot of trade talks, but the deemed him untouchable. We ranked the 21-year-old as the 30th best prospect in baseball and the best prospect in the Yankees organization in the preseason. He’s ranked even higher in our updated top 100 that’s due out in the next few weeks. Severino has posted an ERA of 2.45 in 99 1/3 innings in Double-A and Triple-A this season. The young righty also has a WHIP of 1.00 and is averaging 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings.
